Bangor Office - Serving Families across Penobscot, Piscataquis & Hancock Counties
Penobscot County was incorporated in 1816 and is one of Maine's largest counties, covering more than 3,250 square miles. The county is bordered by
Piscataquis County on the West and Washington and Hancock Counties on the East. The county is named for the state's longest river, Penobscot, which flows
Southeast through the county towards the Atlantic coast.
Piscataquis County was incorporated in 1838, taken from parts of adjacent Penobscot and Somerset counties. It is located at the geographic center of Maine.
Originally it extended north to the Canadian border, but in 1844 its northern portion was annexed by Aroostook County. In land area, Piscataquis is one of the
largest U.S. counties east of the Mississippi River. Piscataquis is an Abenaki word meaning "branch of the river" or "at the river branch."
Hancock County occupies 2,351 miles in the state of Maine, 32.47% of which is water. A distinguishing feature of this County is that it boasts the longest
coastline of any Maine county. Commercial fishing and tourism are the county’s most important industries. Hancock County is home to Acadia National Park
(New England’s only national park) and Cadillac Mountain.
